The 3 beeps indicate that the doors are locked. Make sure vehicle is in park and you unlock the doors, then hit the lift gate button. Problem resolved , it was the power liftgate module issue. All of the doors and the liftgate lock and the beep sound activates at the currently set volume.Both times all I had to do was disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for about 30 seconds.. then reconnect, and that’s it, the rear gate will auto-reset. Not sure why you’re finding that you shouldn’t manually open it, but FYI, you can manually set the level you want the liftgate to open up to, so I can’t imagine opening it ....
